We believe that everyone should have a home! Therefore we are raising funds across the globe to build a home for EACH one of the IDPs in the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine.
We are the first to begin a project of this kind in Ukraine.
In 2014 Crimea was annexed and the bloody war started in the East of Ukraine. As a result, refugees fled the combat zone and flowed into other lands. Some of us have moved to other countries, but the majority – 1.7 million people – have taken refuge in various regions of Ukraine. Of these, more than 3,000 IDPs (internally displaced persons) have settled in the Chernivtsi region. We have lost our homes, our livelihood, our businesses, our belongings and the opportunity to live in peace.
The main difficulty faced by refugees is the lack of decent, appropriate housing. Ukrainian government has been unable to help us in solving this problem.
Many refugees are specialists in various fields, yet due to the severe economic crisis it is difficult for families, most of whom having children, to earn a living. It is a very desperate and tenuous situation. If we do not solve this housing situation in the near future, the adult refugees will have to move to other countries in search of work, in most cases leaving their children behind. Families will be broken up and the European Union and other developed countries will have another problem on their hands called “Illegal Ukrainian immigration.”
Therefore, conscious of this growing problem and wishing to take action, we the IDPs decided not to wait for our government’s help, instead creating the Ukrainian Charitable Foundation of IDPs of Eastern Ukraine and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea called “Kvitka nadiyi” (UCF «Flower of Hope»).
Our goal is to provide permanent housing for all IDPs in the Chernivtsi region. We have already been granted permission to build and have found contractors who are ready and willing to build high-rise buildings for us.
We are the first to do this in Ukraine, building permanent housing for all IDPs in the Chernivtsi region. We believe that the “Flower of Hope” will flourish in this new land and become an inspiring example for other IDPs.
Please become a partner of this international project, because “Everyone should have a home!”
